Ugly Dumpling
Webflow development for Ugly Dumpling, a xiao long bao restaurant brand, built with the design studio ROOM 1707.
The client
Ugly Dumpling is a restaurant brand built around xiao long bao, the soup dumplings. Its website has to do the jobs every restaurant site does, such as menu, locations, reservations and ordering, while carrying a brand with plenty of personality.
What I did
I developed the site in Webflow for the design studio ROOM 1707, which created the design. My job was to turn their layouts into a build that keeps the character of the design, with its bilingual type, illustration and motion, and still works smoothly on a phone in a queue outside the restaurant.
How the site is built
- Bilingual typography. Headlines pair English and Chinese, which takes careful line-height and spacing to work at every screen size.
- Everything a guest needs. Menu, locations, reservations and ordering are one tap away on every page, with careers, press and franchise pages for everyone else.
- Smooth, light motion. Lottie animations and smooth scrolling add character without getting in the way of the menu.
